FlowTraq is a client/server system where the FlowTraq server daemon collects flow records, stores them, and performs the analysis. Clients use a web browser to connect to the FlowTraq portal. Typically, the FlowTraq server daemon and the HTML5 web portal are installed on the same system. The most convenient deployment is the installation of the "vApp" virtual appliance, which comes pre-configured with both components.

More demanding environments may require multiple FlowTraq servers working together in a cluster. In this case, it may be advisable to deploy the FlowTraq daemon directly on one or more dedicated physical system. In this case the vApp may still be used to host the web portal.

This chapter covers hardware requirements, vApp deployments and customer FlowTraq server installation.
